So normally I don’t do this but I am so disgusted right now that I am asking people to share this post in hopes that this company gets recognized for the scam it is.

I had an intervie​​w today in St. Louis at 1010 Market St suite 590. The company is called Fields Data Recovery. They recover your lost data from hard drives SD cards etc. So the interview is going well then Sean who interviewed me starts going over objections of price. He says when the customer asks about costs he is going to say “I have seen this problem before and it can cost anywhere between $400 to $500 but I can’t guarantee it.” He then says “But we are a capitalist society so I know I’m going to charge them at least $1400. How do you feel about that?” I looked at him and as like are you being serious. So you want me to tell people that it can be $400 to $500 so they will send their items in and then I will charge them a minimum of $1400. I can’t do that that is wrong.

Needless to say I didn’t get a job offer. This is what gives sales people a bad name. I am going to lie to you to get what I want and take advantage. This disgusts me. I mean I’m not perfect but I won’t knowingly lie to get what I want. I hope people see this and don’t use there services it is a complete SCAM!!!

In the UK Data Recovery Specialist of Penarth are another front for Fields Data Recovery

Fields operates a PPI claim company “Action Direct UK” run by Jon Latchem-Smith as well as data recovery, Jamie Hamilton Wallis is / was the director and “sales” manager of all data recovery companies, 2nd only to his father Daryl who is / was Chairman of Fields group and a Director of the various group member companies until recently.

Although the Chiang Mai office has its own “director” (need name) as BOI stipulates a director must be based in Thailand - the guy really doesn’t do much and answers only to Daryl, Jamie and Jon.​

He’s basically their whipping boy as the longest serving staff member in Thailand. I am aware that Daryl and Jon enjoyed their regular “work trips” to Thailand Their predatory and shameless business practises reflect their personalities too. They are very aware of what they do and actively pursue a dishonest approach to business - they have a lot of resources and are continually deliberately exploring and pushing the boundaries of legality in order to turn the highest profit, customers and staff aren’t even an afterthought - Companies like theirs should not be praised and find the success that they do.

Their sales units for data recovery is an obscene amount considering close to 100% of it is purely rip offs.

We instructed Data Recovery Specialists, Penarth Branch, to recover the data from our Maxtor portable hard drive. It had just fallen off the edge of a desk onto a carpet. That’s all. We were charged £540 up front and a no data-no fee agreement. We received a parcel from Fields Data Recovery containing our Maxtor portable hard drive. It rattled with loose components inside. There was no letter or anything with it. This was not the company we had instructed, but when we contacted them they told us that Data Recovery Specialists outsource the work to them. Data Recovery Specialists are obviously not specialist enough to do the work themselves, so why are they calling themselves specialists in data recovery???

We contacted Data Recovery Specialist and they simply said they could not recover the data. We asked for our money back. They said you can’t have it back. We reminded them of their No data-No fee promise. The company officer replied you did not read the small print then. We feel we have been conned.

I would not touch either of these firms with a barge pole if I were you.

We have reported both firms to Trading Standards and are pursuing a claim.
